The United Stated and the Republic of China are the world’s two largest markets for both oil and automobiles. Energy use in the vehicle sector introduces various challenges for our two countries, but also presents opportunities for promising areas of cooperation like vehicle electrification. The advantages of EVs include a very high efficiency compared to other vehicle types, a simplified drive train, and an increases flexibility in the primary energy source. Electricity uses to charge the EV can be generated from coal, natural gas, wind turbines, hydroelectric, solar energy, nuclear, or other resources. This meeting is a continuation of a series that addresses the shared interest between our two countries in accelerating the deployment of electric vehicles to reduce petroleum consumption and vehicle and to promote economic growth.
